Trekking the Land of a million elephants
Embark on an elephant journey across the Forest of the White Elephant. Our traditional Howdahs (elephant chairs) are crafted according to centuries-old design. Climb in and follow the slow and undulating rhythm of the peaceful beast. At the forest camp, bath your elephant and enjoy fishing the group's dinner or go for a refreshing swim in the clear waters of the nearby river.
Learn some forest tricks from your experienced mahout. He will show you the ways of life in the forest. He knows the call of birds and animals. The secrets of elephant-lore are his and you are wise to put yourself in his care. He is the guardian of the forest. Your guard and guide to personal discovery. Trust and respect your mahout at all times if you wish to enter his world and master the ‘mount of kings'. Enjoy the conviviality and simplicity of a forest meal and a night (camping) by the fireside, in nature immaculate.
Every visitor will have the opportunity to take charge of an elephant during the trek.. Each small group will be accompanied by a guide-interpreter.

Gilles Maurer and Sébastien Duffillot have been living in Laos since 1996. They both speak lao fluently and have been involved in a variety of projects in the fields of communications, education, local community conservation awareness and cultural promotion. In 2001, they founded ElefantAsia, a non-profit initiative to safeguard the endangered Asian elephants. The next year, they organised a 3-months and 1.300 km long elephant caravan across Laos. ElefantAsia now operates an elephant conservation programme in Laos. With extensive knowledge of the lao cultural context and a long-lasting relationship with the mahouts and elephants of Hongsa, Gilles and Sébastien will introduce you to the magic world of the Lao elephant , a national emblem and best friend of the Lao people.
